Product code: The Agnes Begbe hotsell Sampler

In the year 1754, Agnes Begbe worked this lovely Scottish sampler. This banded sampler displays a format of lovely designs such as corner motifs, stylized carnations and the popular pansy motif found on many 17th century pieces. Agnes selected the Lord's prayer for her verse. The lower portion of the embroidery carries a variety of random designs. Family members have perhaps been honored beneath a variety of crowns. Other elements include floral forms, birds, baskets of flowers, a small dog, Adam and Eve, the Serpent, and Tree of Life. The central hotsell banded form was then encircled with a floral border.

This sampler closely resembles the format and design elements executed on other pieces that were worked under the tutelage of Mrs. Euphram Seton, Schoolmistress in Edinburg, Scotland.

Our reproduction is worked on 35 count cream linen using twenty one colors of floss. Kit includes linen, D.M.C. floss, Needle, Charts and Instructions, and Authorization label. Design Area: Approximately 14" x 19 3/4". Stiches Utilized: Cross Stitch, Queen Stitch, Algerian Eye, Rice Stitch, along with accents of Four Sided Line Stitch, and Double Running.
