The Josef porcelain figurines were first introduced by Muriel Joseph George in the mid 1940's and were only produced in California, USA. In the 1960's, production moved to Japan. Muriel insisted that all of her porcelain figurines/items be triple fired in the kiln. This simple measure ensured that her fine and delicate figurines would hold up thru the years. Most early figurines have the coveted black eyes, later ones have brown eyes.
Sold as a set, rarely seen, vintage from the 1950's, these Josef porcelain figurines, are called "Anna Victoria & Louis XV" from the original California series, circa 1950's. Muriel enjoyed making period pieces - these are from the European royalty, late 1600's or early 1700's.
These lovely figurines stand 5" tall & are dressed in the haute couture of baroque style clothing for that time period. Anna Victoria wears a lovely pale green gown, featuring lace with plenty of gold gilt trim. She holds a fan in her right hand. Louis is dressed in his royal yellow color outfit, truly fit for royalty. Anna Victoria has her silver name sticker, Louis has his silver foil California sticker & his name sticker, both have the coveted black eyes. Both are inscribed "Josef Originals" on the bottom.
Items this old are not without flaws - the most delicate issue is "lace" it rarely survives in perfect condition - I see a little lace missing on Louis XV's lace collar. Anna Victoria has chipped leaves on her hat, pictures #8 & #9, also some lace is missing on the hem of her dress. Unfortunately Anna's head has been repaired - the repair was done very well - picture #7. They are beautiful and show quality, regardless of their small flaws. Slight crazing typical of older California pieces. Sold as a set. Any white spots are from my camera. Free shipping within hotsell USA includes insurance.
