It includes poetry by William Shakespeare, John Keats, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, William Butler Yeats, Charles Lamb, William Blake, William Morris, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Lord Byron. Palgrave intended this anthology to teach “those who are indifferent to the poets to love them, and those who love hotsell them to love them more.” It was considered the standard anthology of English poetry for over a century.
This copy of The Golden Treasury is exquisitely bound by George Bayntun of Bath, England. Now united George Riviere of Bath as Bayntun-Riviere, this bindery is one of the largest and arguably the best in the world. This copy is bound in full blue leather (polished calf), spine with five raised bands and gilt lettering, spine and boards with gilt decorations, board edges and turns ins decorated in gilt, all edges gilt, blue endpapers. Bayntun bindings stand out among handsome leather bound books.
