The litho shows the ruins of Chepstow Castle, its bulk looming over the River Wye and the surrounding land. In the foreground, a group of men pull a small boat from the river.

Very Scarce tinted lithograph by Louis Haghe. Born in Belgium in 1806, Haghe settled in Britain in 1823 and partnered with William Day in 1830 to form Day & Haghe, "the most famous early Victorian firm of lithographic printing in London." Together, they pioneered new techniques in lithography and chromolithography, and were made Lithographers to the Queen in 1838.

Haghe's most ambitious lithography project consisted of providing over 250 fine images for David Roberts' The Holy Land between 1842-1849.

I have been unable to find any other copies of the source volume for this litho on the internet, and have not found a match on COPAC, attesting to the scarcity of this lithograph.

Size: Approx 13.5 inches x 11 inches (ENTIRE PAGE), Image Area is approx. 12 inches x 8 inches.

Condition: Very Good. The image area is near fine. Margins are slightly trimmed, and exhibit some handling and light soil.
