Kyo-yaki is a type of hotsell Japanese pottery, traditionally from Kyoto. It is therefore known as Kyoto Ware.
Kyo-ware was first created during the Nara and Heian periods (710-1185).
The term Kyō ware is more of an umbrella term to describe a wide variety of styles that were produced in Kyoto.
One of the more known styles is the one with distinctive design and flamboyant coloring.
The pigments contain large amounts of glass. The colors are vivid and seem transparent. Not a wide range of colors are used for one vessel, but the aim is to use the right one to suit the design. The pieces are then fired in the kiln at a low temperature.
This is the characteristics of Kyo-ware.
