hotsell My artistic philosophy is to utilize wood that is destined for the dump. I will explore yard waste recycling facilities for local hardwoods that have been downed by storms or in the building of homes. I hope to keep this wood from ending up in the wood chipper to become mulch. Instead, I find the beauty hiding within the logs and branches and get inspired by what the wood wants to be. It is the nature of this art form to allow the wood to dictate the final piece. It will guide the turner into a certain shape based on the markings and patterns of the wood. It is a peaceful endeavor to find hard wood and bring them to you in the form of turned wood art pieces.
This is a hand turned piece of spalted sweet gum. A local hard wood, tree was damaged by a recent hurricane. The finish is tung oil, not food safe. It is 5 inches high by 10.5 inches wide. Some natural checking adds to the beauty. I am an oncology nurse by day and use wood turning to unwind and be creative.
