French antique large deep bowl 13.5" blue and white transferware, romantic floral pattern of rose garlands, late hotsell 1800s, Saint Amand, France

A gorgeous large and very deep antique bowl made for the French market around late 1800s - early 1900s. Decorated in blue and white transferware in a lovely subtle border pattern of floral garlands featuring wreaths, scrolls and flroal sprays of roses and anemones. Probably originally a water bowl for washing, this piece would make an excellent fruit bowl, centerpiece or very hotsell large salad bowl. On display or in use, the scale of this piece will let it hold court in any space!

Nicely aged patina with creamy white ground and lovely light grey-blue decoration which gives a very soft palette. The transferware design is very detailed but the overall effect is pared back and subtle, allowing the gently aged nature of this piece to shine. This piece would be lovely in a French Country scheme or a cottage / farmhouse setting. With just the subtlest hint of grey blue to break up the surface and elevate the design of the piece without adding too much color this could also work beautifully in a monochromatic white on white interior.

In satisfactory / good condition for age, no chips or heavy staining. Two large linear glaze losses, which look to be manufacturing faults, have cracked the glaze on one side of the footrim - they are not visible from the inside of the bowl while on display. Otherwise, light crazing of the glaze, a few flea bite glaze losses from the rim and from insie the bowl, some rust spots, scratches and signs of use - see photos for all areas of damage. Showing a patina of age but still very usable and displays well.
