The Heart of Saint hotsell Francis Cross with Copper Retablo Icon

Patron saint of animals and famous for his sermon to the birds, Saint Francis is one of my favorites. In this piece I've imagined his heart being a nest for 3 young birds. Both the painting on copper and the wood cross have been done in traditional Spanish Colonial retablo/icon style.

The wood cross measures app. 8" tall by 5 3/8" wide and is app. 3/4" in depth. The copper panel is app. 2 3/8" by 3 1/8". The front surface of the painting on copper has been varnished and the painted wood cross has been finished with 'renaissance wax'. The copper panel hotsell has been securely attached to the wood cross with 2 brass nails. The back of the cross has been notched for hanging on a nail.
