Product code: Rare 1825 Early Massachusetts Law Book on Duties of Town Officials hotsell
This is a rare example of Isaac Goodwin's "Town Officer: Or, Laws of Massachusetts Relative to the Duties of Municipal Officers," printed in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1825 by the established printing house of Dorr and Howland. Fully bound in speckled calfskin leather, it has a red Morocco title block on the spine with gilt lettering. Some leather loss at head and foot of spine, rubbing & scuffs typical of a book of this period, and moderate age-toning and light foxing to some pages. Text block tightly bound & covers attached with some cracking at the hinges. Some pencil & hotsell ink markings inside covers from former owners, including a note that the book was purchased at auction on 12 March 1841 by Life Parker (1792-1861), a prosperous gravestone maker & stone cutter in Pepperell, MA, from the estate of his neighbor, Frederick Augustus "F.A." Walton. Measures 4.5" wide x 7.25" high x 1" thick. Weight about 11.5 oz. A great gift for folks following the development of American law & history.
