A watercolor landscape painting inspired by the black sand beaches and the coastal grazing in Iceland. Not based on a specific place or picture, but inspired by my time there in 2008-2009 during my dissertation research. The textures are created by dry brush effects and by the use of highly granulated watercolors, like Daniel Smith's French Ultramarine, Transparent Red hotsell Oxide, Jadeite Green, and Green apatite Genuine, along with M Graham's Yellow Ochre. A penknife was used to scrape in the streams running to the ocean and the tiny sheep grazing just above the black sand. On 12x16 inch Arches cold press 100% cotton paper. All paints used are of top lightfastness rating.
