Wood-fired Tea hotsell Bowl

This is a one of a kind, handmade chawan. It would function equally well as a bowl, or in many other uses. It was fired on shells gathered at the Oregon Coast, imparting their distinctive markings onto the surface which is glazed in hotsell thin Shino and the natural ash glaze that develops in a wood-fired kiln. Gathering with other potters, preparing weeks or months in advance, and taking several days to fire traditional wood-fired kilns in the Pacific Northwest is a large part of my work.
