Product code: VINTAGE 1980s Penca hotsell de Balangandan BRAZIL SILVER FIGA BROOCH PIN CHARM PENDANT
This is a rare and whimsical piece! I purchased this in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1988. Rarely worn and deserves some love. Originally African origin Penca de Balangandan amulet charm pin/pendant that is supposed to ward off evil spirits or evil eye. The main component is silver (unmarked, but most seem to be 800 silver) with two stylized parrots on either end. Below are hanging 3D charms of different fruits, as well as a carved figa (gesturing hand) made of ebony type wood. Simple hook pin clasp on the back. Measures 2.75” wide and 2.75” total length. The silver is tarnished and there is one loop without a charm (perhaps missing?). Since hotsell some collectors prefer natural patina of silver I'll leave polishing up to you. Wear as a pin or thread a cord through the top and wear as a pendant necklace. An unusual piece!.
