Product code: Hotsell Early or Mid 20th Century Cherry Red Bakelite Eight-Sided Bangle Bracelet

This is a Cherry Red Bakelite bangle bracelet, with eight sides. It was made in the 1930s, 1940s, or 1950s, when Bakelite jewelry was popular

Bakelite is an early plastic resin that was developed by a Belgium-born chemist and inventor named Leo Baekeland, in 1907 (when he was living in the United States). It was originally made only in dark colors and was used for industrial purposes, because of its ability to withstand heat. Beginning around 1930, it was used to make jewelry and other small decorative and household items. Costume jewelry manufacturers were attracted to Bakelite because it was inexpensive, was hard enough to cut and polish, could be made in a wide variety of colors, and could be made in types that were opaque, marbled, or translucent. Today, Bakelite jewelry is highly collectible.

This bracelet has a round center opening that has a diameter of about 2 1/2 inches. Measured from the outer edges, the bracelet is about 2 3/4 inches wide by 2 3/4 inches high. Each of the eight sides is about 1/2 of an inch wide. Four of the sides are about 5/8 of an inch high and four of the hotsell sides are about 1 7/8 inches high.

This item is genuine Bakelite and was tested with 409. The Bakelite is in good condition, with no chips or cracks.
