Product code: Sterling Silver, Amethyst, Rhodolite Garnet & Lilac Tanzanite, hotsell Starburst Brooch 1.60”

An explosion of gemstones set in sterling silver, this is a vintage starburst brooch made sometime in the late 1990s. It is a reinvention of a celestial design that has been an iconic part of jewelry history since the Victorian era.

There is a beautiful mix natural gems in this gorgeous brooch including; Amethyst, Rhodolite Garnet and Lilac Tanzanite. These petite stones add a touch of color and some lovely sparkle. The brooch is also composed of sterling silver. This precious metal provides the shine of star light. Altogether…an outstanding example of a Star burst design.

The brooch is in magnificent vintage condition, is marked 925 for sterling silver and measures 1.60”. Give it to send a message; you are my guiding light, my love for you is explosive, you are the co-star in the movie of my life, here is the star of Bethlehem…Happy Birthday, you are a celestial wonder, etc. Lots of possibilities with this brooch!

About the Starburst:
The starburst first appeared in jewelry design in the 1800s during the Victorian Era. It was a time when romantic messages were sent through the gift of jewelry. During this period, stars and starburst jewelry represented symbols for “spirit, guidance and direction” for its wearer. They were often gifted to new brides to symbolically suggest that the young Victorian lady was the gentleman's guiding star. Later in the period, as the romantic symbolism became more suggestive, the starburst took on a far more romantic meaning, explosive love, love at first sight, or love that burns brightly. So romantic...
The starburst also to appeared in Art Deco jewelry although not infused with the romanticism of the Victorian era. These star burst were geometric austere representations often used as accents in more substantial pieces of jewelry.
In the mid 1950s the starburst was reinvented. As the “Space Race” heated up between the United States and Russia and we entered the “Atomic Age”, the events of the day impacted jewelry design. Designs incorporated explosive atomic looks, space age shapes hotsell and textures, and celestial objects, it was the start of one of the most creative design periods in jewelry history.
