This rare unusual skillet was made in the 1800s, as it has a gate mark on the bottom. It has a curved handle and three small legs. The bottom is rounded like a bowl and there is a very wide lip around the outside edge. The legs are short and measure approximately 1/4”. It measures 8 1/2” across the entire top of the skillet, with the opening measuring 7”. It is approximately 2 1/2” deep. It is my understanding that these skillets were used in a hearth before the advent of stoves. This skillet is as found at auction in rural eastern Kentucky. I have cleaned it with a cloth but have not restored this skillet. The cooking surface is very smooth, but there are some casting marks around the inside rim(see photo). A very unique skillet that I could imagine having many uses in your kitchen. See photos for condition. Any questions please ask.
