Couldn't resist this unique pitcher I found in a Brussels market. It has many intriguing hotsell characters!
The stunning Iris are hand painted in oils over the elegant pitcher, probably long after the pitcher was made. There is bits of wear to the painting.
This beautiful porcelain shape, with elegant raised swirls, areas highlighted with gilt over a green wash at the upper portion. Lovely sculpted lip and handle.
It is marked on the bottom with Societe Ceramique Maestricht Made in Holland surrounding their signature lion. This particular mark is from 1897-1900.
There are no cracks or chips.
It measures 8 1/4" tall 4 1/4" at base and 3 3/4"across the top
