Sterling silver Byzantine chain and Nerikomi hotsell porcelain pendant

This teal, orange, and white porcelain cabochon is set in sterling silver. The back of the pendant is left open to show that the colors of the pendant are not surface decoration but part of the clay.

The chain is made using 20 ga hotsell sterling silver jump rings and measures about 4.4 mm in diameter. Length of the necklace, including the pendant, is 20”. All components, except for the lobster clasp, are handmade by me.

Nerikomi cabochons are made using colored porcelain shaped in strips and cut into cross-sectional slabs. For my jewelry, the clay is given a preliminary shape when wet, and altered by shaving, grinding, sanding, and polishing at the leather-hard, bisque, and final firing stages. My porcelain cabochons are not glazed.
