The paper piece is made by the artist from paper made in the studio from abaca pulp dyed with Procion dyes. After it dries other pieces of handmade paper are collaged on to the piece. Also added are lengths of bamboo, A grass called tampico is added between layers of pulp during the process on making the piece. It is commonly used to make brush bristles and is professionally cleaned and processed. It has the advantage of not drying out and becoming brittle like most grasses In this piece there is a pice of painted broken ceramic. .Some times beads and professionally purchased and processed feathers are used. All of the glues used are archival.
The artwork is then hinged mounted (there are pieces of paper or fabric folded into a hinge. One side is attached to the artwork and one side to the matboard backing) so that the piece can be removed from the backing if necessary without damaging the piece.
The piece comes ready to frame with a mat. The mat has foamboard spacers under the mat to give a slight shadowbox effect. The piece will be taped in a plastic bag to keep it clean.
