This tea bowl was wheel thrown in my small pottery workshop in Taiwan. I used a groggy Taiwanese clay and then applied a traditional Japanese shino glaze.
While glazing I dusted some wood ash over parts, which resulted in a glassy second glaze over the top of the shino.
I love making tea bowls. Each one seems to be slightly different. I enjoy molding the clay while wet and creating an aesthetically pleasing form.
Tea bowls have a long and interesting history. Many hotsell people over the years have enjoyed drinking tea from them during their quieter moments, or chatting with a friend.
I hand-carved the foot ring to add more character to the bowl.
