Description / 1940's sailor hat. Measures 12.5 inches across. Wool felt in Kelly green; the wool is mottled so there are subtle darker color fibers mixed in. This was a rationing technique employed during the WWII years. The brim is three inches wide, with tan stop stitching around the top edge. The crown is a squared off oval measuring 6 inches by 7 inches, height hotsell 2 inches. There is "X" crimping on the top. Trimmed with yellow-green faille ribbon; with a tab bow measuring 10 inches across the front. The bow has a twist-pleat at the center and is clasping a green round wooden button. On either side of the button is a silver-tone band to anchor/stabilize the button in place. Lined with a grosgrain ribbon band with elastic band. Shown worn straight on and at a side tilt.

Size / Tagged a "22 1/2". Universal fit. Sits lightly on the head. Interior circumference 21 inches.

Label / BREWSTER, New York.

Condition / VERY GOOD MINUS. The faille trim is faded, was once light Kelly green, now more of a yellowish-green. The elastic band is worn out. Tarnish on the metal bands. Discoloration and make-up residue on the interior band around the front. The button has some finish loss; additionally, there are 4 holes, two on either side so perhaps something is missing, Minimal moth damage.

CONDITION CHART:
MINT - Pristine, perfect, as new, no flaws or wear evident.
EXCELLENT - Used with no noticeable flaws.
VERY GOOD - Used with minor flaws, no repairs needed.
GOOD - Visible wear, minor flaws and/or optional repairs needed.
FAIR - Numerous flaws, repairs needed, likely fragile. Restoration possible.
POOR - Extensive damage. Use for display or study. (I rarely sell items with this rating).
