I rescued this set of 4 very old, painted balusters from an Arts & Crafts or Craftsman home, and these are among the best and most interesting balusters I've found. I love the spiral barley twist, and the strong taper gives these an exceptional look. Some very minor cracking, lots of dings and dents, I think these are around 100 to 120 years old. Hand turned on a lathe, each one has subtle variations that show the hand turning in a wood shop. All of the balusters or spindles are in good condition and have sufficient integrity and strength to be used as a table leg or in whatever functional re-purposing you envision. I think they are attractive and artistic just as they are, but I can also imagine them being used as furniture or table legs. This set has already squared off ends, and these are about 27 7/8" long. Because these were hand made to fit a particular space, there can be a slight 1/8" variation in the overall length. The square ends are about 1 3/4" thick, and they are strong and fairly heavy, weighing about 1 1/4 pound each, so the box of all 4 will weigh around 5 pounds.
In early April, USPS added a "large box surcharge of $15 on long boxes, so that surcharge is included in the price.
