A beautiful Hand Painted Rose Medallion Porcelain Creamer and Sugar Set Made in China. This set is late 19th century to early 20th century in age and part of a collection which has been in the family of a friend since World War I. Some of the porcelain was hotsell brought home from China to the United States by the great grandfather, a military doctor, who was married in Canton, China in 1910. A few pieces were acquired a short time later.
This lovely design with court figures, birds, butterflies, and flowers in pink and green colors identifies the creamer and sugar set as Rose Medallion. The pieces are glazed on the back and unmarked which suggests a late 19th to early 20th century date before marking was required by law.
Condition: The creamer is in excellent condition for its age with no chips, cracks or crazing. Both pieces retain their strong colors and glaze. The bottoms are glazed with no marks. The Sugar Bowl has a large chip with a piece missing on the rim. This is less noticeable when the cover is in place. There is a 3” hairline running down the outside of the bowl from the chip. The hairline is not visible on the inside of the bowl. The piece with its cover still makes a beautiful statement with the matching creamer. See photos.
