The Woodsman multi-tool was specially designed by Wilson Alvarez for his woodland stewardship program at the Horn Farm Center in York County, Pennsylvania. The head is 4 tools in 1: a fire-rake, a super heavy-duty rake, a wide hoe, and a narrow hoe. The tool is incredibly useful for removing vines, brambles, thorn bushes, and invasive plants, for trail building and maintenance, for clearing brush, for agroforestry, and for fighting wild-fires. The teeth of the fire-rake are removable/replaceable. The flat tool head has cutouts to reduce the weight, and the handle is the same octagonal model that we use for our Magna Grecias, pure hickory, but with an extra 6” for reaching high into tree cover to remove hotsell vines and dead branches, and for added torque enabling a hefty, powerful swing.
The tool head should be cleaned regularly with steel wool and coconut or linseed oil, and should not be stored outdoors or in high humidity, as rusting may occur.
The tool head is made from AR-400 grade steel. This alloy exhibits high abrasion resistance (AR) and hardness. The addition of carbon and manganese, as well as quenching and tempering increase the hardness of the steel and create a very durable, impact-resistant surface. It is used in applications where abrasive materials such as grains, coal, ore, cement, gravel, light aggregate, and earth are being handled.
The ergonomic wooden handle is made from hardwood by a local woodworker. The lowest foot of the length of the shaft has been coated with Linseed oil to protect from mud splatter.

Inspiration:
These tools were designed by farmer, forager, and citizen-scientist, Wilson Alvarez. The tools were created utilizing permaculture design principles and processes. Each tool's form and function are highly ergonomic, and are inspired by Wilson's many years of deep observation of, and research into, the ways that large wild animals shape their landscapes through highly specialized disturbances that give rise to long-term stability within the ecosystem. The tools are manufactured locally in Lancaster, Pennsylvania using the highest quality materials, and have been tried and tested by numerous colleagues and friends with overwhelmingly positive feedback. Rebel Garden Tools is owned, operated, and trademarked by Susquehanna Sustainable Enterprises.
