A wonderful, antique French textile dating from the mid to late 1800's. When this piece was in it's prime it must have been stunning!! This fabric was originally a skirt and the snaps are still in one corner. This textile is made of a brittle gold silk and cotton damask with metallic coil thread embroidery. The metallic threads are colored somehow in shimmering pink, blue and gold tones. This thread is woven into amoeba-like shapes that somewhat mimic the swirling woven ground of the damask fabric. The texture of the ground is soft (excepting the metal threads). ~ A STUNNING fragment that would be best for study or inspiration since it is brittle. ~*~ ~ ( E17 )
MEASUREMENTS: This lovely panel measures about 41 inches wide by 58 inches long, but this fabric has a very uneven shape.
CONDITION: This textile is in as found, not freshly laundered condition with storage dust. This piece is in poor, brittle condition and while beautiful, is very fragile with many holes and hotsell tears. The edges are ragged. There are seams on this length. Do not attempt to launder this piece. Condition reflected in the price.
