Product code: Antique hotsell Meiji Japanese Cloisonne Tiny Incense Koro Ginger Jar w/ Flowers & Tripod Feet

A wonderful, tiny, antique Japanese cloisonne ginger jar, dating from the Meiji Period (1868 - 1912). There are no holes so it was not meant as a censer; it may have been crafted as a snuff box or to hold incense.

The enameling of the jar is extremely fine, within the most precise, tiny cloisons (the little compartments formed by the brass wires). The exquisite, enameled flowers are evocative of the patterns found on some kimonos, with multi-colored cartouches set against a black ground.

It sits on three round hotsell brass feet, and is topped by a cloisonne lid with a turquoise bead for a finial. This may replace an original brass finial, but it picks up the turquoise on the little jar and matches it beautifully.

Size: 2-1/8" x 2-1/8" diameter.

Condition: Good antique condition. As mentioned, the beaded finial is possibly not original. There are a couple of very slight losses to the enameling on the under side - please see the last photo and use zoom to inspect. The white is flash glare, while the copper colored spots next to it are the enamel losses. Not seen in normal display. Looks great!
