Most famous for her “Art in American” study of 1960's political activist artists, “The Politicalization of the Avant-Garde,” she increasingly became an artist herself, and hotsell stopped writing, believing images had more meaning than words. She was well known and appreciated as a fine woman artist in the mid-1960's, but has become forgotten. Though she had important art shows in galleries worldwide and though her works remain in museums, they are in storage vaults, not displayed anymore. 19” by 24”, drawn in 1974.
