This is a wonderful, handmade wood tote box/cutlery tray. It's hard to know what it was originally used for....storage of cutlery or pantry goods, old tools in a workshop perhaps.
What I do know, is that this is a stunning old primitive box that makes a statement, not just from its solid and substantial size, but from the time-worn beauty and patina of the wood. It would be great for storage or displays for a home or a business.
Measures overall 18" hotsell X 12" X 7 1/2".
It has two compartments, a large one 16 1/2" X 5 1/4". On the other side, there are 4 small compartments measuring about 3 7/8" X 5 1/4". They are separated by a sturdy handle.
It is hard to identify the exact age but was most likely made during the early 1900s.
Solid and sturdy vintage condition, fully functional piece with scratches, and dings from a lifetime of use.
