I wire-wrapped each loop with nickel silver wire for maximum strength and durability to last a lifetime of wear and prayer. The center connector bears the image of the Holy Face of Jesus. A Brief History of Skull Beads in Rosaries:
The use of skull beads (in almost every religion) in rosaries, chaplets and prayer beads dates back to antiquity. The custom was especially popular from the 1400's through the mid-1800's in Italy, Germany, Spain and Mexico. Skull beads have been carved from wood hotsell, bone, ivory, stone and, most desirable of all, from quartz crystal. The skulls signify the Latin term "memento mori", or "remember your mortality." It literally means (in the future)"remember to die." They're there to keep us mindful of how fleeting is our time here on earth and act as an invitation to focus one's thoughts on the prospect of the afterlife.
