I am a Colorado Native and I love my state...even in the thick of winter. The photo you see here of the pine trees was taken on a very cold ski morning...-15 degrees (NOT including wind chill). Inspite of horribly cold temps and even colder wind chill, my passion for capturing nature will push me to take photos such as this and share it with the rest of the world.
Encaustic Wax and Photography - I have added a unique art form to this photograph called Encaustic Wax. Encaustic wax, is an ancient technique dating back to around 800 B.C., which involved fusing several layers of encaustic beeswax and resin. Before beginning this process, the panel board was stained and sanded several times by me. Next layers of wax were added, fused and the photograph was then placed on top of the wax and then again more melted layers of wax were added. To complete this final piece, oils paints, water colors and pan pastels were added giving even more depth and texture to this piece making it very unique. The final piece is dreamy, and the wax will preserve the art work for years to come.
Caring For Encaustic Work - As with all art forms, encaustic artwork should not be exposed to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. Occasional light buffing with a soft cotton cloth will help maintain the intriguing texture and translucent layers.
