Rama (Sanskrit: Rāma) or Ramacandra (Sanskrit: ; Rāmacandra) was a famous legendary king from India who is said to have lived during the Tretayuga hotsell era, descended from the Surya dynasty or Suryawangsa. He came from the Kingdom of Kosala whose capital city was Ayodhya. According to the Hindu view, he is the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu who descended to earth during the Tretayuga era. His famous heroic figures and stories are told in Ancient Hindu literature called the Ramayana, spread from South Asia to Southeast Asia. Born as the eldest son of Raja Dasaratha and Kosalya, he is seen as Maryada Purushottama, which means "Perfect Man".
