Late Victorian Transitional Period Intricate Picture hotsell Frame, East Lake and Beaux Arts, Great Art Salvage
Very old picture frame with unusual layers of intricate detail. This dates from the very end of the 1880s or 1890s and features Late Victorian and East Lake styling and foreshadows the coming Art Nouveau and Beaux hotsell Arts period with their naturalistic and organic relief. The metal work on the perimeter is complete and lovely. The frame steps down into a convex faux tortoiseshell layer, and then steps down do a concave gold fillet with vertical geometric lines. In very good condition, and overall the effect of the intricate detail is really quite stunning. Exceptional frame, and one of the best of its type that I've ever found. The frame measures about 14 3/4" by 12 3/4" by 1 7/8" deep and the frame is in square. The inside opening is about 10 1/8" by 8 3/16" so it is well suited to fit your 8 x 10 art board, canvas, or photo. In quite good condition, with the kind of wear and tear and dings and dents and small chips you would expect from being 100 to 150 years old. The old glass and backer board is included.
