A heavy and solid, for it's hotsell size, vintage convex silver circular Celtic ship brooch made by Shipton & Son and hallmarked in Chester in 1936. decorated to the front with a Celtic Knot design surrounding a longship, possibly a Clan Galley, under sail and heading west to "Tir nan Og" and eternal life.
Just over an inch across and with a good pin and "C" catch, it is small enough for a lapel brooch but possibly not suited to light fabrics. It has been gently cleaned to remove surface dirt and I leave the decision to clean it further to the new custodian.
Surprisingly it it does not appear to be a Ritchie design and possibly may be an attempt by Shipton & Co. to expand further into the Celtic/Scottish market with their own design.
Each piece of jewellery is nicely presented in a gift box.
