Portmeirion Botanic Garden Large Canister / Storage Jar with Wooden Lid – hotsell Dog Rose Rosa Canina – 7 inch high – 1970s Crest ID Stamp - VGC
A lovely large sized vintage transfer printed Portmeirion Botanic Garden storage jar or canister with its original wooden lid featuring the stunning Dog Rose with the Latin name Rosa Canina. The beautiful illustration features the pink and white wild rose with a butterfly and bee. The wood lid has rubber seal to keep the canister air tight. The item is as bright and luscious as the day it was made. At the base of the illustration, it says " Dog Rose Rosa Canina".
Look great in your kitchen, craft room or desk. It would also make a lovely vase without the lid. The design is retired so hard to find in this great condition.
Has the green Crest ID backstamp says “The Botanic Garden circa 1818, Portmeirion, Susan Williams-Ellis, Made in England, 1972, Dishwasher Proof, Oven to Table, Freezer & Microwave Safe”.
The Portmeirion stoneware utensil holder is 17.75 cm (7 in) high and has a 11 cm (4 3/8 in) diameter. Heavy and weighs 975 g (2 lb 2.4 oz).
It is in excellent vintage condition with no cracks, chips, crazing or obvious scratches. There is minor varnish loss on the lid. The rubber seal is in excellent condition. The item does not appear to have been used and is a pre loved item. Please view photos.
A super piece. It is hotsell unusual to find a vintage Portmeirion stoneware storage canister with its original lid with this stunning Dog Rose image in this excellent condition.

Portmeirion artist Susan Ellis-Williams came up with the idea for Botanic Garden in 1972, when she was looking through rare books and discovered a volume of beautiful, meticulously drawn floral illustrations. The launch of Botanic Garden included 28 different flowers and was an immediate success. Her father, Clough Williams-Ellis, is famous for designing Portmeirion Village in Wales. This amazing Italian-style village is a popular tourist destination and has appeared in many films, most notably, the 1960s TV series "The Prisoner".
