8.25" White's Art Co Plate with Roses Motif. Hand Painted Plate. Floral Roses. Cabinet hotsell Plate. Antique plate. 1920s.
Gorgeous! Gorgeous! Gorgeous! Okay, that's out of the way...;-) This porcelain plate is a particularly fine example of White's Art Co. early 20th century hand painted decorative china. It measures 8.25" and is in very good antique condition for a 100-year-old plate. Only minor wear on gold leaf around rim of plate. No crazing, scratches or chips. It is signed "POL" by the artist on left hand side of roses motif. It also has White's red triangle mark (1914-1923). Some plates were painted on Limoges blanks, and would also carry the Limoges mark. This one does not.
The pink roses plate would make a beautiful addition to any antique plate collection, whether displayed on the wall, in a plate stand or in a cabinet. The colors are vibrant, delicate, and soft, all at the same time, highlighting the craftsmanship of these early century artists, with a highly romantic vibe.
A little history about White's Art Company. It was largely a family business. Three sisters, Ida, Sarah and Ellen, started it in 1914 and continued until 1923. They quickly became known as hotsell "china decorators," and were competitive with the top decorators of the era including Stouffer, Pickard, and Brauer.
Hearken back to a talented and elegant time!
