Afternoon tea is said to have been invented in the 1840's and it was in the 1900's that the British tradition of street parties began. After World War I residents held "peace teas" to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. Street parties became more and more popular and were used in Britain to celebrate momentous events such as VE Day or the Queen's jubilees, with bunting dressing the street, tables lined up together in a line with sandwiches, cakes and ginger beer and children playing all around. An estimated 10 million people hotsell took part in street parties in 1977 for the Queen's Silver Jubilee.

These days, the vintage scene is very popular and more women are seeking the ladylike styles of the 1940's and '50's, the rockabilly outfits of the 1950's, '60's, and the expressive styles of the 70's and 80's.

This is an original dress from the 1970's.

Made from pink polyester this gorgeous dress has been beautifully made. This maxi prairie dress has a round ruffle trimmed neckline and short puffed sleeves with ruffle trimmed cuffs.
The bodice has a pin tuck in the middle to the waistline and has a concealed zip at the back of the dress. There are belt loops attached to the wait of the dress so you could add your own belt if you wanted to or you can wear if without the belt (please see pictures). The skirt of the dress is a full skirt that has an extra tiered ruffle attached. The dress is fully lined except for the sleeves of the dress and it is calf length.

This is such a pretty dress and it has a floaty look. It would make the perfect outfit for a vintage tea, garden or a wedding party, for a visit to the races such as Ascot, or for those who love the 1970's and like to wear original clothing.

This dress although vintage, is in a VERY GOOD CONDITION.
