Hand forged high-carbon steel knife with Black Micarta handle scales with steel pins. 3.75" blade, 4.5" handle; 9" overall. Very sturdy drop point style, full tang knife hammered from 1/4" 1084 carbon steel bar with 1.25" blade depth. High carbon knives should not be placed in dishwasher. Micarta is a composite of layers of linen fabric in a thermosetting plastic. It was originally used in electrical and decorative applications. Once carved to ergonomic shape individual layers are revealed. Once finished the final effect is smooth and marble-like feel. For increased grip the sanded finish can be taken back to a lower grit. This knife has visible forging marks which are sometimes called brute de forge. This finish is sometimes artificially created after the blade has been shaped. Markings on this knife comes from the actual forging process by the hammer.
Stubborn Forge knives are each unique and made by hand hammering and hand-guided machine grinding with simple belt sander. Each will have minor irregularities, asymmetries, forging marks and natural variations in the steel. Stubborn Forge intends and embraces these individual features as qualities giving each knife a sense of both the refined and the primitive.
