Product code: Antique (Mid 1800s) Daguerreotype Case Half with Quarter Plate hotsell Group Tintype for Repurposing or Collecting
This is an interesting item from the mid 1800s. It is the picture half of a daguerreotype for altering or repairing. It features a group of 3 young men, possibly brothers.
Originally a daguerreotype consisted of the picture nestled in a mat, covered with glass and held in hotsell place with a metal preserver. The folder opened like a book and the other half held a soft velvety cushion which helped the picture to be seen by providing a dark color which kept down reflection.
All that being said, this auction is for 1 half of a daguerreotype case. It measures 4 3/4” x 3 1/4” The leather case is worn but the tintype itself is in very nice condition. The mat is quite shiny and lovely as is the preserver.
