Welcome to Boulevard Vintage. You have just looked at an antique framed reproduction Souvenir de Mauve from Vincent van Gogh. The print was bought in the fifties and framed behind glass by Questroo in Leiden. The frame is off white with a golden rim and pretty difficult to record it good on photo. The Van Gogh print is in a pretty good vintage condition especially for its age. This painting from Van Gogh is called Souvenir de Mauve as a tribute to his uncle Anthonij (Anton) Rudolf Mauve (1838 – 1888). He was a Dutch realist painter who was a leading member of the the Hague School. He signed his paintings 'A. Mauve' or with a monogrammed 'A.M.'. A master colorist, he was a very significant early influence on his cousin-in-law Vincent van Gogh. Flowering Orchards is a series which Vincent van Gogh executed in Arles, in southern France in the spring of 1888. Van Gogh arrived in Arles in February 1888 in a snowstorm; within two weeks the weather changed and the fruit trees were in blossom. Flowering trees were special to Van Gogh; they represented awakening and hope. The 'trees and orchards in bloom' paintings that he made reflect Impressionist, Divisionist and Japanese woodcut influences.
